Field Biologist
I was appointed as a field biologist in Matarbari Coal-fired Super critical Electric Power plant, Cox’s Bazar. Firstly, I completed the baseline survey on the ecological biodiversity of the construction area and the adjacent human habitat. The heavy construction activities stared leaving indelible affect on the native faunal and floral community. I have been monitoring and assessing the harmful impact of such development activities since then. Meanwhile I found a Greater Flamingo once and got the first photographic record for the first time in Bangladesh.
Lately, I got an opportunity to conduct an in-situ conservation of Olive Ridley turtle. The adjacent beach of construction area is a breeding ground of sea turtle. Each year we collect almost thousand of turtle eggs from the beach and keep them in a safe place from predator. And we release hundreds of hatchlings in the ocean each year.
I was privileged to be a volunteer in Project Batagur. Batagur Baska is a critically endangered terrapin inhabiting in the Indian subcontinent. With the association of Zoo Vienna and IUCN, Department of Forest has initiated a captive breeding program in a very well build facility. Here we analyze the breeding ecology of the turtle species and ensure their safe and successful breeding. In facility turtle hatchilngs go through an incentive care till they become able to live in the wild.
